The ring
itself
did not
break,
but the
diamond
fell out
leaving
a setting
vacant
rusted
and
so
very
empty.

I balance on rocks
surrounding bonfires,
feel the warm flares
reach for my face,
my laughter mixes with
crackling flames.
flames awaken
an animal
inside my body
and there are
nights and yellow
moons when I allow
it to roam
tonight,
I am wild spirit
the rabbit
in the moon makes
feral mouth water
and howl erupt
from gut
I am here
warm and alive
and ready to run

I am a star,
collapsed,
receding into space.
I died
years before
Jupiter ever felt
my rays.
I crusted over,
a thousand times
destroyed.
But he is still
counting me as part
of his constellation.
I want to know
Jupiter as if he
craved my name.
As if I was
something more
than a flicker
of light,
echoed
in space.
