Spill the Ink is a poetry writing group, hosted by Katrina Kaye, based in Albuquerque, NM. The goal of this group is to conduct monthly writing workshops, while creating a community of writers.
Envision, if you will, a monthly meeting of writers who congregate in the hours before a local open mic to generate some creative writing and find some inspiration. We will hold each other accountable for squeezing our creative juices by conducting writing prompts, sharing techniques and strategies, and workshopping our poems.
In-Person Workshops will be hosted before local Open Mics and may appear at any place around the city. Our current partnered Open Mic is Mindwell Open Mic Series which takes place on the last Friday of the month at Ancora Cafe. If/when the workshop series grows, we may increase meetings and/or reach out to different local Open Mics around town to provide more opportunities for people to meet. (My goal is two workshops a month, but there’s no rush).
As the host of the workshop, I will schedule the monthly workshops, create the invite, and provide possible prompts for writing, but this is not a classroom or a dictatorship. In fact, I would love it if this group really lacked hierarchy, and we could all sit around a table with our variety of educations, experiences, styles, backgrounds, and publication credits and really just see each other as writers. Any member of the group can facilitate a workshop, and I really hope to bring is some guest facilitators too.
